DTP for Translators

8 October, 2022 @ 2:00 pm 4:00 pm

Please note: Due to planned strike action on 8 October, we have had to make this event online only as the travel disruption would have affected our speaker and some of our attendees. If you have previously bought an in-person ticket for this event, you don’t need to buy a new ticket – you will automatically receive the Zoom details via Eventbrite 10 minutes before the start.

Join us for our first event of the autumn term with a presentation by Chris Thompson MCIL (YTI), who will delve into the translation process for print publications using InDesign. He will also talk about other software and online design, including corporate design guidelines and fonts.

The presentation content will address the following:
• Desktop publishing/typesetting/copyfitting
• What is it?
• Software – “Why can’t I just use Word?”
• The print industry
• Translating the intent of the original designer
• A project – with tips and tricks
• Fonts and scripts
• When it all goes horribly wrong

Due to planned strike action, the event will now be online-only. It will be held live on Zoom on Saturday 8 October, 2–4pm.

The event link will be available to access 10 minutes prior to the start (via Eventbrite).

Can’t attend the event live? No problem! All bookings include a link to the recording after the event so you can catch up when convenient for you.

Just bring your keen eye for detail and any questions you may have about the world of desktop publishing – no equipment necessary, unless you wish to be conscientious and make copious notes, of course!

Online event tickets including recording cost £6 (including booking fee). Ticket sales will end 1 hour prior to the start of the event. Book early to avoid disappointment!

£6 Online live viewing and video recording (includes Eventbrite booking fee)
