DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Social Saturday where we’ll take a closer look at the developments in Generative AI being used within our profession\, and discuss strategies as to how we can navigate this brave new world without drowning! \n\n\n\nThe event is aimed at practising translators and interpreters\, whether new to the profession or seasoned professionals. \n\n\n\nFor the first hour\, Angela Sigee will present: \n\n\n\n\ngeneral information on MT\, in particular NMT;\n\n\n\ngenerative AI and its use for translation purposes;\n\n\n\na closer look at the metrics used to evaluate such tools’ performance\, a topic that is rarely explained;\n\n\n\ngeneral trends in the development of AI-based tools for translators and interpreters;\n\n\n\nthe impact of these developments on our profession\, our work processes\, the freelance business model and the language industry in general – a crucial aspect\, sadly\, being the downward pressure on our rates.\n\n\n\n\nFollowing a break\, we’ll then facilitate a panel discussion featuring the following panellists: Michael Farrell (via Zoom)\, Silke Lührmann\, Louise Killeen and Silvia Terribile (in-person).
