SUMMARY:Epiphany Coworking
DESCRIPTION:Join us in Warrington for a ‘January Special’ coworking session featuring a ‘Galette des Rois’\, a cake the French eat at the Epiphany (well\, all through January…) – will you win the little token in your slice? If you find it\, you become the ‘King/Queen for the Day’! Our galette comes from Gourmand café nearby. \n\n\n\nThe NWTN has booked a private room and paid for this coworking session on behalf of our members\, so all you have to do is bring your laptop and friendly chit chat! Why not use this opportunity to plan the new year ahead with support and encouragement from fellow colleagues? If you have work to do\, the office is spacious and offers three private phone booths\, plus all the mod cons we’ve come to expect. \n\n\n\nThe coworking space has a café with reasonably-priced breakfast and lunch goodies. Just make sure you leave enough room for your slice of Galette! \n\n\n\nParking is available in the nearby Golden Square shopping centre (£6 for the day). Hope you can join us! \n\n\n\nPre-booking is required so we can keep a slice for you! Please tap the RSVP button below!

SUMMARY:Bookchat Chapter 18
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re a regular or have never attended before\, we’ll be delighted to see you on Zoom from 7.00 pm on Tuesday 20th January for Bookchat chapter 18! \n\n\n\n🎄 Our topic this time: \n\n\n\n\nDid you receive any books for Christmas? Do you like them?\n\n\n\nDid you offer any books for Christmas? How do you choose a book for someone else?\n\n\n\nDoes the festive period influence your reading? Did you have more/less time to read?\n\n\n\nAny reading resolution for the New Year?\n\n\n\n\n🏝️ Desert Island Reads… This time we don’t have anyone to tell us what 8 beloved books they would take to a desert island. We are looking for new readers to join the bookchat and the desert island list is an excellent way to introduce yourself as a reader. Please contact Laurence ahead of the bookchat for any guidance and to inform us you’re coming. \n\n\n\n🤔 If we don’t have a castaway reader this time\, we could talk about the classics we would like to read… one day. Or the ones we tried and abandon\, or the ones we would never read… prepare your arguments for the discussion! ⁉️ \n\n\n\n📚 As ever\, the session will end with an opportunity to exchange book recommendations. Has anyone caught up with some reading this summer? Any beach/travel books to recommend? Please don’t forget to add your recommendations to the Bookchat Forum so people can consult them at any time! \n\n\n\nYou can also join the chat on WhatsApp with your fellow bookchatters. If you are already a member of our WhatsApp NWTN Community\, just join the Bookchat group. Otherwise\, you can scan the QR code below. \n\n\n\nThis is also a great opportunity to meet the regulars if you have not attended before. \n\n\n\nCome and tell us what kind of reader you are! \n\n\n\nLaurence and Janice \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin on Zoom\n\n\n\n\n\n\nZoom details: \n\n\n\nMeeting ID: 875 1082 0998Passcode: 504490

SUMMARY:Social Saturday: DeepL Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Debunking the Myths of DeepL and other Machine Translation Packages \n\n\n\nDo you work with DeepL or any other MT package(s) – whether via MTPE assignments from agencies/direct clients\, by your own choice in your translation assignments or your clients’ choice? \n\n\n\nJoin us for an NWTN Workshop led by Nicole van den Wittenboer MITI as we take a ‘deep dive’ into all matters DeepL\, as well as other machine translation packages. \n\n\n\nThis interactive workshop will aim: to compare Linguee.nl and DeepL (both free and paid subscription versions); to examine examples of errors to look out for when editing machine-translated texts; and how to advise your clients on the pros and cons of MT and their implications on the time needed for translation/compensation. By the end of the workshop\, we hope attendees will feel more confident and positive about using machine translation packages. \n\n\n\nAudience takeaways \n\n\n\nYou will establish if machine translation is for you and whether you should use it. Should you offer it as a service to your clients? Establish which package to choose: DeepL or an alternative? Learn how easy it is to work with and what the benefits and drawbacks may be. How would it affect your way of working and the time it would take you to do an assignment? Can it be integrated into your CAT tool? Can it be used with your clients’ translation platforms? How would you advise your clients? Would you potentially earn more? \n\n\n\nTranslators of all levels of experience who want to understand the opportunities presented by machine translation packages and would like to maximise their chances of success when using them. \n\n\n\nTarget audience \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker \n\n\n\nNicole has over 30 years’ experience as a freelance translator between Dutch and English\, user and trainer of CAT tool packages (Déjà Vu (DVX) and Trados) to translator colleagues and MA students and has used DeepL for over 5 years. \n\n\n\nEvent details \n\n\n\nJoin us for this NWTN Social Saturday at the Friends’ Meeting House in central Manchester! Nicole’s workshop will include a tea/coffee break. \n\n\n\nWe anticipate demand will be high\, so don’t delay in booking as tickets will be limited and the deadline is 16th January\, 4pm (for catering purposes)!
