I’ve just ordered Janice’s recommendations on French Ebay.
“Robert et Jeanne à Lyon sous l’Occupation” by Annette Kahn and film about Lucie Aubrac! The postage was pretty reasonable, but let’s hope they don’t get caught up in post Brexit Customs problems!

I discovered this French trilogy a few years ago. Being a great fan of audio books (from Audible French site) I started the first one and found I couldn’t stop listening! It accompanied me on a very long solo drive through France to Saint Etienne.

The first one in the trilogy is “La Bicyclette Bleue” (covering the period 1939 – 1942)
Quick synopsis :
Léa Delmas a dix-sept ans.

Number 2 is “101 Avenue Henri-Martin” (covering 1942 -1944) read by the same narrator – Veronique Groux de Mieri. I have searched for other books read by the same person, as I find she has great talent for reading and is so easy to listen to, very convincing. She adapts her voice to do several different characters.

Number 3 in the trilogy is “Le Diable en Rit Encore (1944-1945). I’m not going to tell you how it ends, but each volume of around 12 hours is well worth it.

Again I am always impressed to hear how the French lived through the occupation and summoned up so much courage and initiative to make the Resistance effective.

Hi everyone,

I’m afraid I haven’t got any recommendations to make but I thought I’d just put my head round the door and say hello.

This isn’t a recommendation but did anyone read Austin Freeman’s Dr._Thorndyke (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Thorndyke) stories when they were younger? My Dad was a keen Sherlock Holmes fan and I suspect Dr T. was a Sherlock rip-off. I remember in one story, following a post-mortem, Dr T spotted that the type of duckweed found in the victim’s lungs was different from that present in the canal where the body was found! “Elementary, my dear Watson-equivalent”. As a result, I probably know more than any other NWTN member about the duckweeds that occur in the UK. ;-0

as you can see above my link text experiment worked.
So just paste your URL in and it should be converted* to a clickable link on [Submit]

*) This will probably only work if the URL starts with a well-known protocol (like http, https or ftp)

You definitely can do this with the
https://html-online.com/editor/ (I just pasted the link text in to see whether it will be converted on saving/sending this message)

However, it is probably faster to use our editor as it has a

LINK

button 🙂

Actually, on using it I got to understand what you mean with “Instilled page”. Each time you click anywhere in the Add link dialog it opens this page. May be Sue could remove it. In the meantime just don’t click on it but just write and use tab to cycle through the fields

Fastest is probably to learn the HTML syntax: <a href=”put URL here“>and your text here</a>

Welcome Katell!

Markus, I have had problems with inserting a web link on a piece of text. Nick has done it on one of his posts, but I am systematically sent to the Instilled page when I try to enter the URL. Could I do that with https://html-online.com/editor/ ?

Muchas gracias Janice,
I may even try one in Spanish 🙂

Do you know Arturo Pérez Reverte? I read The Dumas Club. Not strictly crime fiction, but detective and mystery for sure! And it’s all about books! I have another one in Spanish, El maestro de esgrima, not read yet…

Thanks Deborah for all these ideas. I am glad that good American series are well dubbed. Some series sound really dreadful when I go back to France…
I have never tried audiobooks, thinking I would have difficulties keeping the concentration needed. Maybe I will try for Spanish!
