Rebecca Tipton PhD is a Lecturer in Interpreting and Translation Studies and a researcher based in the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies (CTIS) at the University of Manchester.
She has developed introductory level training courses for public service interpreters in the Greater Manchester region and led preparatory courses for the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting in English Law (Chartered Institute of Linguists). She currently serves as Secretary/Treasurer for the International Association of Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS).
Rebecca has published on interpreting in asylum settings, conflict zones, and in social work. Her work foregrounds issues of interpreter impartiality, trust, risk and organisational accountability to limited proficiency speaking service users. More recent work has focused on developing a history of public service interpreting in Britain and enhancing understanding of limited English language proficient victim experiences of police interviews and charity support services in cases of domestic abuse.
