I attended two NWTN events in January, the Singalong and the Foray into Finance CPD day. Both were extremely rewarding and well worth a train trip to Manchester- even coming from Southern England didn’t take long.
The singing event on 19 January was led by a charismatic young conductor who made it all relaxed and tremendous fun. The twenty or so of us spanned the whole gamut, from regular singers to those who usually only warble in the shower. The songs included a Polynesian folk song, a spiritual, a Polish shanty and some rounds (with different parts of the group mirroring each other) Remarkably soon, we were making some lovely sounds. This was billed as the First Singalong; I hope there will be many more!
The ‘Foray into Finance’ day was informative, entertaining and inspiring. Most of us hadn’t worked in financial translation and were encouraged to think how we might enter the field. The speakers were varied and engaging, each giving us a taste of the kind of work they do and how they got into it. There was plenty of opportunity for questions. I left with my head buzzing with new ideas. And there was a good lunch with the best chips I’ve eaten for years! Highly recommended.
