Where do you live/work?
I am originally from Southport but now live in Preston, Lancashire.
Are you mainly a translator or interpreter or both? What languages?
Translator – Spanish & French into English.
What are your specialist fields?
Family Law, Academic & Commercial documents. I worked in-house for 10 years and developed these specialisms through a variety of projects!
What’s the strangest/most interesting project you’ve ever worked on?
I have worked on some interesting police reports, in particular one involving a robbery in a jeweller’s shop.
Tell us about a particularly proud moment in your translation career:
Passing the ITI exam whilst working in-house and then going on to set up my own business in 2016.
Tell us two reasons why you like being a translator/interpreter:
I really enjoy the variety of the work as no two days are ever the same! I also love the flexibility and being able to use my languages all the time, which is what I always wanted to do.
What is the most interesting place where you have lived/visited?
I lived in the Basque Country during my year abroad and was fascinated by the culture and the language there. It is unlike any other place in Spain I have been to!
What are your plans for professional development or a new field you’d like to work in?
I would like to develop my transcription skills. I have done some in the past and I bought a kit last year, so I just need to get some more experience and then hopefully I can offer it as a service.
Tell us something not many people know about you:
I have a passion for the theatre! I used to do a lot of amateur dramatics when I was younger and once had the lead role in a play at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
